CANTATORI MEETS IUVENTUS!
The Eastern Cape Children’s Choir is proud to present a concert by the Cantatori Male Choir from Port Elizabeth, under the direction of Ansie Kotze, and the Iuventus Gaude Children’s Choir, from Jablonec in the Czech Republic. The concert will take place at St Mary’s Cathedral off Govan Mbeki Drive in Central on Tuesday, 17 July 2018, at 19h00.
IUVENTUS, GAUDE! [Youth, Rejoice!] was founded in 2015 at the Primary School of Art in Jablonec nad Nisou and is today being conducted by Mr. Tomáš Pospíšil. The choir consists of the preparatory choirs: „Pueri, gaudete!“ (age 6), „Liberi, gaudete!“ (age 7-8), „Boys Choir“ (age 7-12) and the „Amici, gaudete!“ (age 9-11). The main choir „IUVENTUS, GAUDE!“ consists of children aged 11 to 18 with more than 190 girls and boys in the choirs altogether.
The broad repertoire of the choir presents the works from the Baroque era as well as contemporary music, folksongs, swing, spirituals, musicals and others as Tomáš Pospíšil intends to show to the children the beauty and quality of music of different ages and different cultures. In the INTERKULTUR world ranking list „Iuventus, gaude!“ is currently listed on the 20th place in the category Children’s and Youth Choirs.
Iuventus Gaude will be participating in the World Choir Games in Pretoria earlier in July, whereafter they will be conducting a concert tour through South Africa.
The CANTATORI Male Choir was founded in 2010 under the baton of Ansie Kotzé, singing mainly in four parts and a cappella. The members, presently 13, are from different parts of Port Elizabeth, and sing both sacred and secular songs in various languages. “Cantatori” is Italian for “singers”. The choir has appeared as special guests at the annual sell-outFeathermarket Organ Society Christmas Concert and regularly performs during church services and form part of many of the larger retirement villages’ entertainment programmes.
Tickets are available at the door at R60.00 for adults and R40.00 for pensioners, students and scholars.

The Eastern Cape Children’s Choir was founded in 1982. This year is our 35th anniversary and we plan to celebrate it with many performances at various venues! The ECCC consists of between 50 and 60 children of all races and cultures, between the ages of 10 and 15 years. The children represent schools throughout the larger Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality and surrounding towns, including Addo, Jeffrey’s Bay and Patensie. We wish to thank the schools in Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas for their continued support during the 35 years - it is wonderful to have such a rich and varied source of choristers.
In October 2015 the ECCC returned from their 12th international concert tour. During the tour they were hosted in 6 cities accross Germany and The Czech Republic, participating in 8 formal concerrts, as well as a multitude of informal performances. The choir had the audiences on their feet at every concert and received many compliments regarding their professionalism, discipline and deep understanding of the complex music they were performing.
